James H. Essell, MD
Biography
Dr. Essell is a medical oncologist and hematologist who has practiced cellular therapy and stem cell transplantation since 1991. He is medical director of the Blood Cancer Center at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the director of the immune effector cellular therapy research program at Sarah Cannon Research Institute. Dr. Essell specializes in malignant and benign hematology and cellular therapy. He leads his team’s research efforts in hematologic malignancies, which has led to many firsts, including the first allogeneic CAR-T patient internationally.
He is a national principal investigator for many of these trials. He has also published numerous articles in the field of malignant hematology and stem cell transplantation in peer-reviewed journals. In addition to his research endeavors, Dr. Essell is committed to advancing treatment options for his patients and is continually exploring new and innovative therapies.
